College hoops

Today we have a full day of college hoops with no football interruptions. Here are a few games that caught my eye.

All times PST

9am
Cal +3 vs. Kansas (at Kemper arena). These are not the old Jayhawks, and Cal is a very good team with Powe in the lineup. Omar Wilkes transferred from Kansas to Cal so this will be an interesting game for him.

10:30am
Texas +4.5 vs. Duke (at East Rutherford NJ). Duke has played well there, but they will not be able to match up with the longhorns. Texas wins and covers.

12:45am
Gonzaga -8 vs. Oklahoma St (at Key Arena). Gonzaga is one of the best and most balanced teams in the country. Their tough early season matchups will have them well prepared for this matchup vs. OSU.

2:30pm
Nevada pk vs. UCLA (at Anaheim, Ca). UCLA will get their first look at one of the best players in the country, Nick Fazekas.

Note: If you get a chance, watch Memphis play. One of the most young and athletic teams in the country. Incidentally, one of their best players, Rodney Carney, is a senior. Great shooter and leaper.

You can't handle the truth!

Welcome to The Truth, a web site inspired by Casey Rhodes and my dad, Bill. What is the Truth? This is a web site dedicated first and foremost to what most men love (other than their women), sports. We will discuss and dissect most sports; football, basketball, baseball, with an eye on California interests. You won't find any hockey thoughts here, but you will get plenty of gambling and fantasy tips. With that, let me offer you a few Tips, Tricks and Thoughts.Tips:
Most Fantasy football leagues are beginning their playoffs this week. With that in mind, I will offer my "not so obvious" starting team. If you have Shaun Alexander or Peyton Manning, you should start them.

Tips:
QB: Brad Johnson - Going up against one of the worst pass defenses in the league.
RB: Domanick Davis - Secretly has been putting up tremendous stats the past couple of weeks
RB: DeShaun Foster - This year's "Larry Johnson"
WR: Andre Johnson - Now healthy and facing a good match up
WR: Koren Robinson - Someone needs to be on the receiving end of Johnson's big game
WR: Chris Chambers - Miami won't be able to run, so they will have to pass
TE: Ben Troupe - Last man standing on the Titans
K: Doug Brien - Does it matter?
Defense: Seattle - Can they do it again. Against the niners and Alex Smith, I think they can

Tricks:
NFL:
Patriots -3.5 at BILLS: Now is not the time to play the Patriots as they head into their annual playoff run.
COWBOYS -3 vs. KC. The Chiefs are the Chefs on the road. Dallas is hungry after their loss last week
STEELERS -6 vs. Bears. Chicago won't score an offensive touchdown. Pittsburgh will.
Texans +6.5 at TITANS. Two bad teams. Is one 6.5 points better than the other. I don't think so.

NBA:
Detroit -5.5 at WARRIORS. The Warriors are better, but not this good.

Thoughts:
The SF Giants are not looking good thus far during the hot stove season. To date, they have signed Steve Kline, who replaced LaTroy Hawkins, who was traded for Jerome Williams. Ouch! Yesterday they inked Mark Sweeney to replace JT Snow at first base. I am drooling over their 2006 starting infield of Sweeney, Ray "Glass Joe" Durham, Omar Vizquel and Edgardo Alfonzo. Mark Teixeira of the Texas Rangers will hit more homeruns than these four clowns.

Don’t forget to tune in Saturday morning at 9am to watch Leon Powe and the Cal Bears take on the Kansas Jayhawks.
